Our preschool program is designed for children aged 1 to 5 years old from 7:30am to 5:30pm. This program is geared towards the “mover and groover” years of childhood from the toddlers to the “terrible twos and threes” to the “I can do it myself” fives.
Throughout the preschool we utilize The Creative Curriculum, a research-based and research-proven curriculum that allows our teachers to be their most effective, while still honoring their creativity and respecting their critical role in making learning exciting and relevant for every child. The Creative Curriculum is aligned with the Head Start Child Development and Early Learning Framework and state early learning standards.1
All of our classrooms have been designed to encompass the following:
- Provide a literacy rich classroom environment
- Implement activities and curricula to promote early language and literacy skills for all children
- Identify children who demonstrate early language and literacy delays
- Provide intensive intervention for the identified children
Florence Fuller Child Development Centers are dedicated to helping children realize their full potential both socially and academically, by giving them the tools and skills they need to start school on par with their more affluent peers. We believe every child should have the chance to learn, grow, and experience success in school and in life.
The Twos and Threes
The “terrible twos and threes” are in fact a good indicator that a child is developing on target. Two- and three-year old children are entering into a big change in the way they think, learn, socialize and feel and it can be disruptive to both child and parent. With the guidance of our fully qualified staff, the “terrible years” can quickly become the “tremendous years”. It is a time in their child’s growth that parents are amazed at how much their children are learning, discovering their independence and knowing how to express emotions that they could not before. Two and three year olds can sort shapes and identify colors and, although they might not want to, they are able to follow simple directions and take turns. Learning stations throughout the classroom foster learning and self-expression in both group and teacher facilitated activities.
The Fours and Fives
At this age there is an explosion of knowledge and awareness of the world around them. Four and five year olds become acutely aware of relationships between family members and friends, notice the difference between people of different races and questions are thrown out in rapid succession. They start making friends, creating games, becoming a little bossy with other children and understand when someone is feeling sad or happy. Our classrooms are designed to encourage independent thinking within a structured environment. Each child knows which activity will follow the next, giving them the security they need while they develop their own personality and individuality. We are a provider of the Voluntary Pre-K Program which entitles all parents of four year old children a right to Pre-Kindergarten education for their child.
