Health Services

BeaByers-FFCDC-15

According to the Federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, up to 13% of children suffer from serious emotional disturbances yet only one-third receive treatment by mental health professionals. According to Estimation Methodology for Children with Serious Emotional Disturbance, over 3 million children suffer from serious emotional disturbances such as depression, anxiety, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, aggression and sexual reactivity that severely disrupt a child’s functioning at home, school and in the community.

At Florence Fuller, we seek to not only provide a solid educational foundation, we also seek to treat the whole child through onsite behavioral health services available to every child that we serve. We incorporate models that are family focused and emphasize highly structured, comprehensive family strengthening with behavioral parent training, family skills training and family therapy components. We collaborate extensively with other nonprofits in order for us to be able to bring Behavioral Health Services to the child rather than the child having to travel to receive services, which greatly reduces the likelihood of them accessing the services they need.

Health Screenings

A variety of screenings are performed to ensure that children are healthy and able to reach their full potential. Screenings include: vision, hearing, speech, nutrition, height, weight, BMI, hemoglobin, blood pressure. If a child is found to require intervention or further assessment, referrals are made and followed up by one of our on-campus social worker.
